About Trolley.co.uk

Trolley.co.uk is a UK grocery price comparison service, tracking and comparing the prices of every product across UK's largest supermarkets from May 2020. Currently, Trolley.co.uk helps just under a million shoppers save on their weekly grocery spend with price comparison, price history, and price alert facilities.

How the GPI is formulated

By connecting the activity trends of 850,000+ UK shoppers with one of the UK's largest, most up-to-date grocery price datasets, Trolley.co.uk is able to see which products are purchased regularly by households across the UK while continuously monitoring prices. The Trolley.co.uk Grocery Price Index offers a yearly view of changes in prices to detect inflation beginning from May 2020.

Why did Trolley.co.uk make the GPI?

This index was brought forth to highlight how prices have changed as a whole, by aisle, across brands, and throughout UK's largest stores. We believe that the UK public, who are the most affected by this, should have the right to know where the largest price changes are occurring and we hope to empower them with this GPI.

How it's different

The GPI monitors the prices of the products we buy regularly as this is a truer reflection of how price inflation affects our daily lives. The Consumer Price Index and Retail Price Indexes also factor in costs of Fuel, Energy, Utilities, and other associated living costs like Council Tax.
